Dr Steer was educated at The King’s School, Canterbury. He studied Engineering Science, graduating with a Second Class Honours degree at New College, Oxford, in 1970 and then worked for three years as a system engineer in industry. He returned to University College Hospital, London, to read medicine graduating MBBS in 1978.

He has held postgraduate hospital appointments in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and Accident and Emergency.

In 1980 he joined his father, Charles Steer, who had practiced in Kingston since 1952. He became a member of the London College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992. He is a Diplomate of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Dr Steer is appointed as medical examiner by the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions for migration medical examinations.

Dr Steer also acts as chief medical advisor to several local insurance companies.
